Why don’t we start off by you telling us a little about yourself?
I’m from Brooklyn, New York, a crazy and wonderful place. I’m a Scorpio and I love the beach. My background is in graphic design and creative writing, and I love to think about the graphics of the story as I write.
What do you like to do for fun?
Read and write novels. Swim all year long and live on the beach in summer.
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I was about 12 years old. That’s when I found my mother’s diaries. Wow, was that exciting!
What does your family think of your writing?
We’re a very close family. They all support my writing and they are always coming up with plotlines for me. (Don’t tell them. I never use them.)
What do you think makes a good story?
Passion, secrets, jealousy and a good sex scene now and then.
Is there a subject you would never write about as author? If so what is it?
Anything gory or overly violent. I’m a lover not a fighter.
Do you create an outline before writing?
I use graphics. I’m very visual and I want my writing to be visual.
How much research do you have to do before writing a novel?
I try not to do much research. I write about what I know. If I don’t know a subject well, I’ll find an expert and ask them.
Any advice for getting through the dreaded writers block?
No. I’ve been lucky. I’ve never had it. I always have more ideas than I can get to.
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors, like myself?
A writer writes. Write about what excites you… what angers you… what really turns you on. Write about the hot guy you saw passing you on the street. What feelings does he stir up in you? Excitement, love, lust, tenderness? Write about all if it.
How is the publishing process? Any advice?
I’ve had agents and a publisher. I’m independent now and I like it. Much more freedom. Less time, waiting for things to happen. I can write fast and post my books fast. If traditional publishing attracts you, go for it. But be aware that the competition is fierce, digitalization of books has changed everything and, in most cases, you are going to have pay for your own publicity. Go for it, if it excites you.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on my second book in the Scorpio Beach Series entitled SUMMER MAN.
Okay now for some lighter questions.
Coffee or Tea?
Do you write more in the morning, afternoon or at night?
I write from about 11am to 3pm.
Are you an early bird or night owl?
I love the night and I love the summer morning sun. I don’t sleep much in summer.
What is your favorite genre to read?
All good plot driven romances. Any genre, except fantasy romance and science fiction romance.
Is there a book that you wish you could have written?
What is your favorite book at the moment?
I stumbled on a novel that I’m really enjoying by a debut author. DEAR CAROLINA by Kristy Woodson Harvey
Is there anything else you would like for your readers to know?
I am always gratified and humbled when even one person orders my novel. Out of millions of titles out there, someone wants to read a novel I’ve written. It’s a wonderful feeling. Thank you, readers. I wish I could thank them all in person.
Thank you for chatting with me Annabel, you sound like a fun person! You gave me some good advice especially about the publishing thing. I can’t wait to read some of your books, it’s been awhile since I read a good romance novel.
